Trends Jay-Z Ended (And The Ones He Didn't)

"Y'all on the Gram holdin' money to your ear / There's a disconnect, we don't call that money over here!" Lil Boosie need not worry, Jay has taken aim at a huge amount of trends over his career. Ask Cristal, Iceberg clothing, the BMW X5, throwback jerseys, major label deals, auto-tune, molly, and Timbs. There's more, and a full analysis on which he ended and which he couldn't.

There are so many incredible easter eggs on Jay's 2017 album 4:44. Did you know he throws back to "Snoopy Track" on "Marcy Me"? That he references his collab with Eminem, "Renegade", on "Bam"? And he actually makes mention of his 1997 video "Sunshine (Always Be My)" on "Caught Their Eyes", which is odd, since that video did untold damage to Jay's reputation in 1997. There are plenty more, you will learn something if you read on.

An in-depth look at Ambient in 2017, which Gas, Max Corbacho, Christopher Willits, The Caretaker, and heaps more albums and pieces of music reviewed.

Rick Ross, Jamiroquai, Actress, 2 Chainz, Flaming Lips, Austra, T.I., all these artists had incredible deep cuts available by mid-2017. This playlist I've compiled is high-quality, click through for the full list and the link.

Every credited artist is represented, with an accompanying narrative on how and why they appeared on Jay-Z's 13 and most person album 4:44.

Even Kingdom Come...

Placebo have been known for debauchery, for heavy rock, for wearings dresses on stage, and for copious consumption. Rarely is their song-writing spoken of with as much awe as their off-record antics, but their 4th album is quintessential Placebo, a wonderful watermark combining their early combative nature, their penchant for experiments, and Brian's vivid story-telling.

Which Australian rapper do you know saved all their money and moved to Miami at age 16 with a dream to be a rapper? Which rapper got absolutely dragged for 3 years then dropped "Mo Bounce"? Which rapper didn't acquiesce to gatekeepers by retiring and returning home with bank balance intact? Iggy. No other Australian rapper. But why? Read on...

Head back in time to discover which of the big three contributors to Jay's classic 2001 album pioneered the sped-up soul that so consumed mainstream rap in the early 2000s.

Around 2005-2006, Jay Z, as president of Def Jam, made a play to sign Lil Wayne. It never eventuated. Jay's side of the story, told to The Breakfast Club in 2013, places the blame for the failed deal squarely on the table of Birdman, the head of Cash Money Records, the label that discovered and signed Wayne. Would Wayne have prospered at Def Jam with Jay? Would we have received so much free music from Weezy? Quality control, Young Money, leaks, and legacy are all explored

Come check out Jay's prowess at cycling, boxing, basketball, tennis, American football, martial arts, runnings, golf, and motorsport.

Missy Elliott, Limp Bizkit, Ja Rule, Nelly, or 50 Cent?

Why is this one label so obsessed with Jay-Z? Nicki, Wayne and Drake have all explicitly compared themselves to Jay-Z in some way during their career. This article deals with the accuracy of those claims, fact-checking.
