Looking for some new tunes?

Guy's if you're looking for a little bit of a lift during this long dragging July, or you just need something new to turn the volume up to in the car, here are a few records I'm giving a work out at the moment:

Ab-Soul - Longterm Mentality
Potent delivery and the soul induced viber beats are making this release a chill-out must at the moment. Turn it on and tune the rest out, it's keeping me sane right now.

The Tallest Man On Earth - There's No Leaving Now
I swear this man came from one of Bob Dylan's testicles. A rough scratchy voice it may be, but his delivery is pitch perfect and is very easy to digest. He is accompanied by a piano and a couple of guitars and a microphone, but the album remains interesting and engaging throughout. Give it a spin if you find a patch of sunlight somewhere.

Maximo Park - The National Health
The Brits know how to deal with the cold. Dial up the feedback and start making music. An energetic blast from the 12 year veterans is perfect to keep energy levels up when you just want to go home and chill out by the fire.

Waka Flocka Flame - Triple F Life, Friends, Fans and Family
It's a party joint. Yes. And Drake drops by for an excellent verse, Nicki Minaj is on deck as well. You may be repulsed at first but it is infectious. It's not soem auto-tuned MTV flogged tripe, the such that Usher and co keep trying to shove down our throats. Flocka is about as hood as the thing that covers your engine so peep up and give it a spin.

Curren$y - The Stoned Immaculate
The smoothest talker in the hip-hop game, with a legendary thirst for all things marijuana. It translates beautifully, it's another vibe record. You drift away in to the weed-haze he breathes out and all of a sudden an hour has passed and you've hit 5 pedestrians. Still good.

Slugabed - Time Team
Synth-induced mania is a common condition contracted from this record. It's a pleasurable experience though. Don't drop acid before this one, you'll be climbing up extension cords if you do. Really solid record.

Squarepusher - Ufabalum
Not an easy listen but a rewarding one. See Fennesz or Autechre for references. If you don't know what I'm talking about maybe it's best you avoid this one and give your ears a bit of a breather. If you do know what I'm talking about catch the second track and tell me what you think of his dub-step leanings.
